Suitable Accommodations All Over The World

An accommodation is, according to the dictionary, a dwelling or temporary place of residence. It is also described as lodging for travelers. In early times when people traveled by coach, lodging was often a room over a noisy pub. Sometimes you had to share with other people. We've come a long way baby. Accommodations are much nicer now.

Country inns or bed and breakfasts are very popular now. They are usually very large restored homes with rooms to rent. While the inns offer meals and sometimes packed lunches for picnics, the B & B's usually just have breakfast. These places are great for a quiet, romantic getaway. They are often in rural settings and many have no televisions or other electronic services. My husband would not like that. He once had me go into a motel to see if they had cable before we could check in.

Naturally hotels and motels are another kind of accommodation. You an get a single room or a suite for the night or an extended stay. Some motels rent by the hour and we'll just leave the rest to your imagination. My husband and I have traveled by car quite a bit and I just want you to know thta the rooms with vibrating beds for a quarter do still exist. We got off the beaten path in the Carolinas and got such a room. I just had to put a quarter in for old times sake.

In years past the YWCA provided housing for young ladies who moved to the big city for work or schooling. This type of housing was much like a college dorm and had a house mother and a lot of rules. Parents felt much more secure sending their daughters to the Y. The YMCA provided the same accommodations for young men. Students traveling abroad found youth hostels to be an affordable option and hostels exist today in the U.S. and many other countries. They are very inexpensive and do not have the restrictions of a stay at the Y. Rooms and bathrooms are often shared and a hostel stay provides an opportunity to meet a lot of different people.

Another interesting accommodation is provided by Earthfoot Ecotour. There are host families all over the country and the world who will allow you to stay in their homes. It's kind of like an exchange student situation, but for adults. You let them know your interests and they will match you with a host family.

As I said, accommodations have come a long way. You can stay in a treehouse in Alaska, a grass hut in Africa, or a castle in Spain. Whatever your preference, there are suitable accomodations all over the world.
